Free Summer Fun is Just Around the Corner

Summer in Edmonton is all about making memories outdoors, and one of the city's most-loved traditions is returning once again. The City of Edmonton's Green Shack Program is back, bringing free games, crafts, sports, and creative activities to neighbourhood parks across the city, including parks in Paisley, Chappelle Gardens, The Orchards, and Edgemont. A Summer Favourite for Families

Designed primarily for children ages 6–12 (although everyone is welcome), Green Shack offers a fun, active, and welcoming place for kids to spend their summer days. Best of all, it's completely free and no registration is required. Simply stop by during program hours and join the fun.

Each week brings something new, with program leaders organizing a variety of activities including:

  • Outdoor games and sports
  • Arts and crafts
  • Team challenges
  • Music and creative play
  • Special themed events

Whether your child wants to make new friends, burn off some energy, or try something different each day, there's always something happening at the Green Shack.

Summer Fun Close to Home

One of the best parts of living in Paisley, Chappelle Gardens, The Orchards, or Edgemont is having family-friendly amenities just steps from your front door. Green Shack adds even more opportunities to enjoy your neighbourhood throughout the summer.

Instead of packing up for a day across the city, families can simply walk or bike to their local park and enjoy an afternoon of free programming while taking advantage of the surrounding playgrounds, green spaces, pathways, and community gathering places.

It's another example of how thoughtfully planned communities create opportunities for neighbours to connect and kids to build lasting summer memories.

What Parents Should Know

Green Shack operates as a drop-in program, meaning children are free to come and go throughout the day. It's important to note that the program is not a childcare service, and parents or guardians should determine whether their child is able to participate independently. Children under six are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

For 2026, Green Shack runs:

  • June 29 – August 21
  • Monday through Friday
  • Morning (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) or afternoon (2:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.) sessions, depending on location. Some parks also offer full-day programming.
Make the Most of Summer in Your Community

Whether you're a long-time resident or considering making one of these Brookfield Residential communities your new home, Green Shack is another reminder that great neighbourhoods are about more than beautiful homes, they're about creating places where families can connect, play, and thrive.

This summer, grab a water bottle, sunscreen, and your sense of adventure, then head to your neighbourhood Green Shack. Your next favourite summer memory could be just around the corner.
